«The Becoming» is a long term project where artist, Jenn Brisson, revists major turning points of her life and explores the transformations that take place, translating them into pieces of art. Chapter One's theme focuses mostly on the awkward and confusing time surrounding a young girl's transformation from Child to Woman. Mixed with imagery of monsters and Spring, these pieces represent how this change, usually celebrated, can make a young girl feel as if she is becoming something monstrous and unnatural. This show will have final pieces as well as studies and works in progress. Artist in attendance.
ABOUT JENN BRISSON:
Jenn Brisson started her art career drawing cartoons, and has since then, become a prolific painter, illustrator, and street artist. All those years in animation mixed with an interest for the macabre has brought equal parts strange and saccharine to her art. She creates spaces where odd beings from other worlds, mixed with Fauna and Flora live harmoniously on textured backgrounds. Jenn’s work has shown in galleries across Canada and in the US and has been making appearances in Vancouver’s street scene. Recently she completed an 8×54′ mural for Downtown Vancouver and painted a collaborative 600sf mural in New York City. She is now working on her second mural for Downtown Vancouver and getting ready for a mural Artist Residency in Sicily in the fall of 2017. Jenn’s work has been published in comics, kids’ novels and various art books and was showcased on CBC’s TV Show “Crash Gallery: Season One". Currently living/working in Mount Pleasant, Jenn continues to chase magic beings and is living life to the fullest.
