I am a singer-songwriter and I have always had a love for home cooked meals and genuine human beings.
Growing up in a small prairie town, I came across both on the regular. Holding doors and greeting random people was also normal where I grew up.
I was bit with the music bug at a young age and found it to be a good tool for keeping me busy and fueling my creativity.
There was always music to be heard at the community center dances, a combination of classic rock, rock n roll, country and pop (Mum taught me how to twostep in the living room before goin...girls appreciate a good twostep… she'd say😉).
Years later, leaving the small town life for a desired career in music, I left the prairies and headed west to the ocean.
My journey planted me in Langley BC, which to me had a lil down home feel to it. I made some great friends and started diving into the music industry.
My cousin gave me a job roofing to keep the lights on while I pursued music...being afraid of heights didn't help the struggle up the proverbial ladder or the figurative one for that matter, but you MUST forge through and follow your dreams.
I've played in a few different bands among the years and have always carried the passion for making music.
I remember hearing Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy for the first time and being wowed! I loved the combination of Country and the gritty Rock mixed with witty lyrics (This song shortly became my go to karaoke). I always loved the vivid stories country music would offer and definintely can appreciate a good groove.
Artists like, Conway, Garth, Charlie Pride, Oakridge Boys, Brooks and Dunn, Travis Tritt, Randy Travis and the list goes on and on, all pulling me in with great songs and well delivered vocals. We can't forget greats in other genres as well...Bee Gees, Abba, AC/DC, Def Leopard, Neil Diamond, Fleetwood Mac, Zeppelin, Cash, Hendrix, Cobain and so many many more, that definitely influenced me along the way.
I was thrown into the country club scene playing covers with The Chris Buck Band for awhile at Gabbys Country Cabaret and Roosters. Also accompanying Chris to The Rockin River Musicfest in Merritt BC and Sunfest in Duncan BC.
I met this remarkable gent at the local Langley watering hole...Gabbys, and after a night of mild debauchery we decided we should get together and write some songs. Chris, myself and Producer Jeff Johnson got together and came up with a cool little tune called Sip A Lil Summertime. Which is our first collaboration and MY first contribution to country music.
I continue to develop my sound and find what I really enjoy playing....which is a mix of everything from country rock or rock country or pop country....or country country hahaha, there are great songs in many genres that should be appreciated. I love writing and playing music for people to sing along to, clap their hands, dance around and or just plain enjoy! I have always had an appreciation for a well written song in ANY genre.
My love for music, travelling the world and being raised in a loving family from a small town has given me a variety of tastes and exposure to all sorts of great songs and culture. Also helping me stay humble as well as grateful for all that I have and have experienced in my life, the good and the bad. Always remembering the day to day struggle we ALL encounter on our way through life and to be helpful and kind to everyone and everything!
Don't stress...the earth continues to spin…
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined. ~ Thoreau
For Benny Bassett, this mantra could not ring more true. After serving for several years as a singer and lead-guitarist for Chicago-based band Vintage Blue, Bassett has taken his own show on the road. Benny's solo shows feature songs that are «honest, engaging and well-crafted; each one sung with purpose and intent with Benny all the while pulling great hooks, leads and accompaniment from his acoustic guitar.» — Radio DJ Bobby Guy, of Kalamazoo 102.5.
In two short years, Benny has shown he is ready for the spotlight sharing the stage with acts like Sister Hazel, The Verve Pipe, Welshly Arms, Bronze Radio Return, Stokeswood, Scars on 45 and Melodime. He also recently showcased his talent at the Folk Alliance International Music Conference in Kansas City, MO, and Red Gorilla Music Fest in Austin, TX.
Building on his successes, Benny released his debut EP in August of 2016. The new EP, titled «These Dreams» is the follow up to the busiest months of his career as a professional musician. In his first year as a solo artist, Benny played over 150 shows across the United States and Canada, earning new fans at each stop.
