Denim Vest takes place on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional homelands of the Musqueam, Skxwú7mesh, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. As a community event, we organize and seek out intersectional, nuanced, and engaged ways to be in solidarity with Indigenous communities of whose lands we work, resist, and play on.

Hey friends, DV's back in full swing for the summer heat and you know how we feeling about matching! As in, we're naming our twin first borns the same name and making them wear the same outfits until they're 18! Perhaps you've picked up on the fact that we completely and most definitely believe that our tops should always match with our bottoms. It's true, we do. That being said, Denim Vest Presents: Denim Shorts, too!
Similar to our inaugural Denim Vest Denim Shorts party two years ago we'll be bringing out our *DIY Shorts Station* (Instruction 1: cut pant legs off of what was once pants; Instruction 2: party sweaty short shorts o'clock! HellYeah!). Popsicles are up for sale to keep our fingers sticky in that midnight heat. All proceeds go towards Red Gate Arts Society — support your local community arts spaces!
Hello sunshine, let's party <3
Big love to the talented Mandy Pants for making our banner art again!

BLACK SOLIDARITY FUND
Party scenes are inescapably implicated in the consumption of black culture. In the past we along with other party organizers in Vancouver worked with a small crew of folks in our communities who ID as queer and black to figure out ways non-black queers could enact solidarity. What came of it was a black solidarity fund that party organizers could create for their events and contribute to to figure out tangible ways to be in solidarity whether it be through relationship building, fundraising, and more with black folks in their communities. For each of our parties we contribute to a solidarity fund. As is anything in solidarity building, we're in continuous process of figuring out what consensual allyship could look like, how we can strengthen relationships, and what our resources and contributions could be put towards.

THE BUDDY SYSTEM:
Please remember: consent is sexy… and mandatory. Leave your oppressive misogynistic, transphobic, racist, ableist behaviour at the door. The Buddy System will be in effect at Denim Vest. All Buddies will be wearing glowing bracelets around both wrists. Buddies will have bottled water handy for you, run interference if someone is receiving unwanted attention and generally serve as go-to support people should any problems arise.
While Denim Vest cannot encourage the use of recreational drugs, we understand that folks have a variety of ways they like to party. We will have drug-testing kits available, and both Party Bosses Emily and Melanie are trained to administer NARCAN (available at our party) in the event of an opiate overdose.
Denim Vest is a scent-reduced space. Red Gate Arts Society is an artist space with multiple artists using various chemical-based mediums in the studio space. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee a space that'll be as accessible as we'd like, though encourage people to come scent-free. This is a space we create together!
More resources on holding scent-reduced spaces for one another? Here are a few:
An accessibility audit has been made for Red Gate Arts Society (last updated August 2014) care of Theo Jakob! Many thanks also to Romham for providing updated information. For more information on accessibility audits, check out the Radical Access Mapping Project.
