«It makes the new feel old again.»

In LOGAN: NOIR, director James Mangold provides Hugh Jackman and his now iconic, 17-year long portrayal of superhero Wolverine a fitting swan song — in glorious black and white. Inspired by both the tone of Westerns of yore and the franchise's own fans appreciation of black and white images Mangold posted during the production, LOGAN: NOIR is a fitting tribute to franchise and fans — and screening at the Rio Theatre for a final encore on Wednesday, July 19.

In the near future, a weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) cares for an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stewart) at a remote outpost on the Mexican border. His plan to hide from the outside world gets upended when he meets a young mutant (Dafne Keen) who is very much like him. Logan must now protect the girl and battle the dark forces that want to capture her.

«Hugh Jackman makes the most of his final outing as Wolverine with a gritty, nuanced performance in a violent but surprisingly thoughtful superhero action film that defies genre conventions.» (Rotten Tomatoes)

«The joy of LOGAN: NOIR isn't its elevation of the original, but how it further underlines the film as a labor of love and trust from director James Mangold and star Hugh Jackman… This is a movie set in the future with most of its runtime spent in a desert warehouse forgotten by time. The monochrome only enhances this juxtaposition, the brooding of Jackman's Logan himself, and the unfortunate plight of the once-great, already-limited Professor X, now further relegated to a hospital bed. It makes the new feel old again.»

«The existence of LOGAN: NOIR, the thrill of getting to see it on the big screen, and the send-off felt like a gift for fans who’ve seen and adored Jackman on-screen for 17 years, a relationship that of course had its up and downs. It’s Hugh Jackman and James Mangold, who knew what the character meant and the weight of it all, recognizing that fandom—and signing off with what felt like an earnest and softer goodbye.» (The Mary Sue)
