The Vancouver Pride Society is proud to host Pride Sports Day, bringing members of the LGBTQ2+ community and their allies together for a fun, active, and inclusive day of celebration at Second Beach. This is event free to the public, family-friendly, and will include live music, a variety of sports and recreational activities, a 19+ beer garden, a sober picnic space hosted by Last Door Recovery Society, vendors, food trucks and community groups. We are pleased to announce that we will be partnering with all three local, professional sports teams for this year’s event: the Vancouver Canucks, BC Lions, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Originally called the “Teddy Bear Picnic” and taking place at New Brighton Park, this event has a notable history stretching back to the 1980s; the event served as an opportunity for members of the LGBTQ2+ community to gather in an outdoor, public space, which was uncommon at the time due to lack of social acceptance. We are excited to continue the legacy of this event as a welcoming, inclusive space, while also introducing new elements. This event is not your average sports day, and is sure to provide fun for a diverse array of interests. Stay tuned for announcements on what some of our new activities will be!
Preceding Sports Day, Vancouver Frontrunners will be hosting their annual Pride Run & Walk from 8am to 11am. Proceeds from this event benefit LOUD Business, LOUD Scholarship Foundation and Out in Schools. Register and find details here: Pride Run & Walk 2017
Interpretation is being booked for the day.
We ask that all attendees help make Pride Sports Day a scent-reduced space. Please refrain from using perfumes, colognes, and strongly scented products.
Sports Day and the Pride Run & Walk take place on the traditional, unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations.
