Al Mozaico Flamenco Dance Academy
3701 Hastings St # 109, Burnaby, British Columbia v5c 2h6
Al Mozaico Flamenco Dance Academy is pleased to present an extraordinary evening of flamenco dance, music and song. The show features 10 dance solos exploring the wide range of emotional expression and diversity inherent in the art of flamenco and presents a unique opportunity to experience some of Vancouver's up-and-coming dance artists accompanied by
local and international professionals. We are especially pleased to welcome powerhouse guest singer, Vicente Griego «El Cartucho» from Albuquerque, New Mexico. His powerful, inspiring vocals have been described as «deep,
sonorous wails that seem to come from a cavern, someplace deep within his soul» (Chicago Artist's News).

The art of flamenco originated in diversity. When the Roma people settled in the South of Spain after centuries of migration through India, Northern Africa and Eastern Europe, they brought their beliefs, cultures, music and dance with them and flamenco was born. It is an art that continues to grow by integrating different influences as it evolves. Flamenco has become a truly global art form, revered, taught, learned and performed on every continent on the planet.
Traditional flamenco is performed by a small group called a «cuadro». In its most essential form, a cuadro is made up of a singer, a guitarist, a dancer and a percussionist playing «palmas» (handclapping). The members of the group are engaged in a constant interplay of communication and improvisation
with each taking the lead at particular moments, much like a jazz quartet. The result is an exciting, energetic performance that can present some unexpected surprises. Flamenco performed this way never happens the same way twice. Each performance is a unique, one-time-only experience.
Al Mozaico Flamenco Dance Academy is proud to offer this amazing opportunity to our intermediate, advanced and professional dancers as they seek
transcendence in this art form, experience a connection to fellow artists and learn to «speak» flamenco language in the intimate cuadro.
The dancers have undergone rigorous mentorships with acclaimed flamenco masters Kasandra «La China» and Oscar Nieto in order to realize their potential for this performance. Each dancer has a unique background and personal story that drives them to perfect their art. They represent a range of individual experiences and cultures and each has a unique way of
expressing themselves through various flamenco forms. Audiences can expect a performance that celebrates both the diversity of flamenco and of the artists themselves. From pure joy to the deepest sorrow, flamenco encompasses the spectrum of human emotions and in this performance, communicates them through the art of dancers from many different walks of
