DanceLab: Naomi Brand
Fri Dec. 8 | 12-1pm | Free, all welcome
Scotiabank Dance Centre
Come join Naomi Brand and collaborators as they share the results of their two-week DanceLab residency researching the application of live description to contemporary dance. This research is the first phase of a larger project entitled Translations led by Naomi Brand in collaboration with All Bodies Dance Project (an inclusive dance company made up of dancers with and without disabilities) and
VocalEye (a live description services for people who are blind or partially sighted).
Translations explores how to meaningfully describe the abstract language of contemporary dance and the impossibility of this task. The project aims to use the tool of live description in order to find new ways to make dance accessible to all people, while also creating new ways for audiences (both with and without vision) to experience dance performance.
Translations is made possible with the support from the Canada Council for the Arts and BC Arts Council.
