— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — Automotive racing is an exceptionally thrilling sport that combines some of the most advanced technical and scientific development pursued in sport, with highly demanding human requirements, both physical and psychological. To the observer, the challenges of the sport, both from the driver’s and car manufacturer’s point of view, are frequently not apparent.

This presentation will focus on the science of driving a car at, and beyond, its grip limits. While entire engineering textbooks are devoted to this topic, this talk will provide an overview of the intricate balance of driver choices and vehicle physics that govern the driver’s ability to control the car through high speed turns. While some of the material covered will be the same as the first talk, this talk will spend more time on actual driving theory and the physics rationale behind car set-up and aerodynamics.

**While relevant applications to improve everyday driving safety will be discussed, the techniques covered in this talk should not be practiced on the street. For those interested we will provide information on events where one can practice racing techniques on track.**

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — This seminar will start with the basics, otherwise new drivers will be lost. Andre will be covering topics including:

-the limits of race car handling: tire grip
-tire characteristics and slip angle
-traction budget and the g-circle
-exceeding the traction budget: understeer in braking, oversteer under power
-racing lines
-cornering theory
-car suspension and set-up
-chassis moments and balance
-relative impact of aerodynamics
