Mark Butler (Dublin, Ireland) presents new paintings, in which the floodlit landscape of nocturnal Suburbia is manifested as a series of human heads.
In this body of work, ubiquitous features of Suburbia such as commuter routes, concrete car parks and street lights, become a kind of fuel supply that’s used to carry out experiments in picture making. As the idea of Suburbia begins to loosen and dissolve, unknown territory is traversed, and a series of head like structures emerge.
Butler is interested in exploring routine and repetition in everyday life, and both the potential and absurdity that lie within. With that in mind, his work attempts to take the most quotidian and humdrum of subject matter, and use it as a key to access a channel for invention and metamorphosis. It represents his search for the exotic in the embers of the absurd.
Dynamo Arts Association invites you to join us for the opening reception on the evening of Friday, January 19th.
January 20th, 21st, 27th, and 28th, 1-5 PM.
