Vancouver’s housing crisis has rapidly spread through the province, and its effects are devastating. The places we love and call home are almost unrecognizable.
Unregulated global capital and widespread real estate speculation have driven up housing prices and driven out long-time residents. Empty houses dot our landscapes while homelessness levels continue to climb. Whistleblowers pointing to corruption emerge almost daily.
Enough is enough. All of this has to change.
Last year we kicked out the BC Liberals and welcomed the BC NDP who promised to fix this housing crisis. On February 20, Premier John Horgan and Finance Minister Carole James will unveil the long-awaited budget, and we expect them to deliver.
Residents across the Lower Mainland and beyond need to pressure government to ensure housing is accessible for residents of ALL income levels. We are concerned citizens from diverse backgrounds working together to stop the housing affordability crisis from spreading, and we call upon everyone affected to join us. No matter your income, age, or background, we ask you to stand with us and raise your voices on Sunday, February 18.
We don’t know what this provincial budget will hold, but we know that we must show elected leaders that we are a united and strong voice. Our future depends upon it.
Together, we will tell government that we NO LONGER tolerate our province to be run by profit-driven individuals and corporations. We demand our government close the loopholes, punish lawbreakers, clamp down on exploitation, and even the playing field across the province.
The Affordable Action Hub is an alliance of individuals and groups across the Lower Mainland and beyond, who share the common goals of housing affordability, filling vacant homes, ending unfair evictions, and eliminating abuse of our legal system.
We are actively seeking allies, sponsors, and volunteer language interpreters. If this interests you, please email us at [email protected]
