Human Study #1 — 5RNP Five Robots Named Paul
Patrick Tresset, London/Paris
ONLY BOOK YOUR PORTRAIT SITTINGS HERE: newmediagallery.youcanbook.me/
As part of the TRACE exhibition, this evocative theatrical installation by Patrick Tresset, consists of five robots named Paul who draw a seated human model. Each of the robots works from a small, wooden school desk: the person being drawn sits on a chair surrounded by the sketching robots. The process takes about 30 minutes. We are now taking bookings for these portrait sittings. Drawings remain the property of the Robots, but we will scan copies for each Sitter.
Human Study #1 — 5RNP is based on research into human behaviour, exploring how artists… make marks that depict and perceive. The work uses computational systems that introduce 'artistic', expressive and obsessive aspects into the robot's behaviour which are related to how the artist himself draws.
April 28 — July 1
Opening Reception Friday, April 27, 6:30 — 8:30
The Trace exhibition presents a total of four works by six artists and runs April 28 — July 1. Together the works explore some of the complex human-technological interactions that are part of representation-making & mark-making. The representation of a face or the translation of a body into lines, marks and signals can give us insights into the way machines imagine, record, learn and remember. These physical interactions also trace the path of our own human/technological existence.
Join us at the opening reception. Four of the artists, will be in attendance, including Patrick Tresset.
