'A New Path to the Waterfall'
Tuesday, June 12, 7pm
Off-site at Burrard Marina Field House, 1655 Whyte Avenue
Join Portland-based artist Harrell Fletcher for an informal discussion reflecting on 'A New Path to the Waterfall', a public project that situates a CAG satellite gallery space within Lord Strathcona Elementary School.
Developed out of Fletcher’s 2015 residency at the Burrard Marina Field House, the initiative places local artists in MaryAnn Persoon’s grade 6/7 classroom throughout the 2017-18 school year, re-shaping the ways in which we consider contemporary art, gallery spaces and public schools.
In a series of participatory projects reflecting Fletcher’s interest in bringing art and life together, local artists Justine A. Chambers, Elisa Ferrari, Hannah Jickling, Carmen Papalia, Helen Reed and T’uy’t’tanat-Cease Wyss have been collaborating with the students to create projects and interventions exploring different issues and investigating a variety of topics connected to the grade 6/7 curriculum. Each artist’s tenure has been presented to the public through exhibitions, interventions, performances and public programming at six week intervals throughout the school year.
'A New Path to the Waterfall' is generously supported by the Vancouver Park Board, the City of Vancouver, The Vancouver Foundation, TELUS Community Board, the Hamber Foundation and Artstarts/Artists in the Classroom.
