The Wise Hall Lounge features a rare night of pianist songwriters: Ida Nilsen and Shannon Scott share a bill, each performing as a trio with some of Vancouver's most renowned musicians.
Ida Nilsen is a Canadian pianist, singer and songwriter. She led the band “Great Aunt Ida” from 2002 until 2013, releasing three albums of original material. Influenced by classic songs from a variety of genres, her writing has been called intimate and honest, warm and spare, and bordering on misanthropic. She is joined by Mark Haney and Barry Mirochnick.
Shannon Scott's songs blend elements of jazz harmony, pop melody and poetry; her music is expressed with an original voice as she winds her way through form and sound in unpredictable ways, and she invariably sings with her heart on her sleeve. Drummer Skye Brooks and guitarist Jeff Younger bring their deep sonic sensibilities to the music, and the songs become explorations in possibility.
