Curriculum Vitae of Monica Parra
Professional Argentine tango dancer, Monica started studying tango-dance in 1996 dealing with different styles: Social tango, dancing-hall tango (tango salón) and modern tango.
Since then, she has been a regular visitor at the main milongas in Buenos Aires and she has been the partner of the greatest and most reputed “maestros milongueros”. She studied tango with Geraldine Rojas, Jorge Dispari, Lampazo, Turco Jose y Nelly, Chino Perico, Natalia y Gabriel, Julio Balmaceda, Graciela Gonzales, Pupy Castello, Carlos Gavito, Gustavo Naveria, Olga Bezio, Toto Faraldo…
With Professor Carlos Gavito, she shared a number of exhibitions and the movie “Exiliado en el Cielo” (Exiled in Heavens). Besides, she danced in the movie “Orquesta Escuela” (Orchestra School).
She has taken part in several International Tango Festivals in Argentina, Río de Janeiro, Sweden, Greece, Spain, France, Turkey, The Netherlands, Germany, Bulgary, Russian,
USA, Canada, México.…
She has danced in shows accompanied by very well-known tango orchestras like “Sexteto Mayor”, “Color Tango”, “Los Reyes del Tango" among others.
She is a member of the Jury of the Metropolitan championship, the world championship of “Tango Salón” in Argentina and the 2018 Montreal championship of Argentine Tango in Canada, representing the Tango Teachers, Choreographers and Dancers’ Association since 2005. She was also a member of the International Tango Federation in Moscow in 2013.
She has organized student’s shows called “Ayer” (Yesterday), Romeo y Julieta (Romeo and Juliet), La Vida (The life ), Abrazos de Tango (Tango Embrace) and Encuentros (Meetings)…
She worked at very important theatres in Buenos Aires as a dancer and as an actress in the show «Tita, una vida en tiempos de tango». In 2014 she was chosen as Tango Queen, a
tribute to outstanding female tango dancers.
At the moment Monica Parra is directing her Dance Academy in Buenos Aires Capital, teaching regular lessons and offering shows in well-known “milongas” such as Parakultural in Salon Canning and Fulgor in Villa Crespo.
